From the Grove to the Temple.. It still takes Faith

Whether we have ancestors that were pioneers
or we are the pioneers in our family.
It takes incredible faith to to follow our own trail to the Lords house.

 Hello everyone, Uncle Bob here. I just wanted to take a minute to ask each of you to start your "trek" a little early. In a few short months we will have the opportunity to be walking on the same trail that our pioneer ancestors walked. Each of our families are different. some of us have many prominent ancestors that made the journey across the plains. My wife's great great grandfather was George Wardle and was in the vanguard company that came with Brigham Young. My family is quite different, My Fathers family is from Missouri and were not members of the church.

I did a search of my ancestors and found that I did have twelve that had made the journey. As I walk with each of you this summer I will also carry their names and walk with them.
So with that said I would like to challenge each of you to do a little research and you too can carry your ancestors with you this summer. Its easy to do. SNOW FUN....... YOUTH CONFERENCE 2013

Sandy Utah Hillcrest Youth had a "badgerblast" at Snow College for youth conference. It all started with a Thursday activity at the Draper temple. All youth ages 12 - 18 were invited to participate. Then that evening, President Stringham gave a wonderful devotional. The Youth then had the opportunity to bear their testimonies. It was a great night. On friday the youth met at the stake center at 08:00 to have a quick breakfast and then board the busses to Ephraim Utah, where snow college hosted our conference. Rain threatened to spoil our first activity which was the ropes course. But the heavens smiled upon us and the sun came out just in time to dry the course and allow the kids to have a rare opportunity to learn trust in themselves and others.

A Leap of Faith and Trust

The course was not  for the weak of heart, and our youth rose to the occasion time and time again, new friendships were made, and old friendships were solidified. after the challenge of the ropes course. We had spaghetti for dinner and sang a rousing chorus of happy birthday to President Stewart. He was given some very needed presents. We were given some freetime after dinner. The youth could swim, play basketball,wally ball or just hang out with friends. At 8:30 we held a dance at the activity center. There were youth from our stake and some other youth groups that were having their youth conference at the same time.

Ah Now for a good nights rest.........NOT.
Many of the youth used this time to stay up and talk .... and talk.... and talk. One group consumed so much mountain dew that the companies stock rose 10 percent over night. As the sugar high wore off, there came a banging on the doors...it was time for breakfast. Once breakfast was over it was time for more fun with Badger Games.. we played and played.....then we played some more. as noon approached we went to a pavilion at a nearby church and had a pizza party, then loaded the busses and made the journey home to Sandy. Strangely enough the busses were much quieter on the return, with the exception of a few that were snoring.

Mr. Peabody and the way back machine

Most of you probably don't remember who Mr Peabody is or what the way back machine was. (bullwinkle cartoons) Ah childhood memories. Anyway the trek reminded me of time travel. As we were able to leave the current world behind and participate in the trek. I had the opportunity to reflect and ponder what it must have been like. I distinctively remember the first night at camp. Sitting by my own campsite I was able to close my eyes and open my ears. The sounds of people cooking, pots clanking and spoons tapping on the pans as they cooked. The sounds of conversations from different family camps, tha laughter of the youth playing. It took me back the 150 years when our pioneer ancestors camped in these very same meadows. It made a connection with me, one that I hope will linger for the rest of my life. We were able to be in the same place, do the same things and touch the past.
Thank you to our Stake leadership for providing the experience, and thanks President Tidwell for giving us this wayback machine.

WE MADE IT.....Whew!

Well by now all of your Trekkers should be home. They are probably tired sore and and a bit dusty. It was a great experience for all. We will be updating this blog for a while with pictures, Pictures will be up on a link tonight july 23 on the daguerreotype page (and yes you may download them to your hearts content.) understand these are rough cuts and we will ad more often. There will be a video available in a few weeks, the pictures will get some editing, and updates will be often.

BISHOPS, PARENTS, HIGH COUNCIL AND STAKE AND WARD YOUTH LEADERS. Please let your youth know they can go to the TREK EXPERIENCE PAGE and leave comments. Share the blog often and check it daily, pass it on. The posts will be sent to the church with our stake history this year. Please feel free to add your own comments on the ma's and pa's page or the trek expereince page! So far we've had about 2000 views!

PS I corrected some of my errors.for example it was the Mormon trail not the moron. Sorry for the slip.

Good morning

Well here we are day two, the night was uneventful. The night time skies here in Wyoming are breathtaking. It did get a bit chilly. 41 degrees, invigorating. The morning found many of the campers still exhausted from the previous day. That is until the morning journey to the John. Here comes brother Jeff Parker, strolling casually to wait his turn in line. It wasn't so much the walk, or even the fact that many were dancing as they waited their turn. It was the bright red long johns he was sporting. Classic! I'm gonna stake out the latrine area tomorrow to try to catch him on film. We will travel 6 hard miles today, mostly up hill. There will be a women's pull just after lunch. Stay tuned I'll keep you posted.

We Made it!!!

Hello to everyone back home. I have good news. We all made it to Wyoming. Today was a great day for trekking.we darted at Brighams arrow, this is where Brigham Young placed a marker showing where the mormon and Oregon trails separated. From the there we traveled 8 miles which included a decent down gravel hill. It was the first real test for the pioneers in descending down a steep incline. We are going to try a broadcast later but the connection isn't 3G which is almost a must. Don't worry if it doesnt work well post pictures and stories from the trek until our thumbs bleed.

Thank you for letting your youth come on this journey, the Tidwell, Stringham and Stewart companies are doing well. See you non a few hours.

The journey begins

Pioneers gathered in anticipation of beginning their trek journey. Young men and women, seasoned men and women from every walk of life. Met to hear words of encouragement from their leaders, to get company assignments and begin the three day odessy we call trek.a two hour drive will take us to present day fort Bridger where the pioneers will pick up their handcarts and start the 23 mile walk along the actual morman trail. Stay tuned we will keep you posted on our progress. Be online tonight at around 9:00 mountain standard time we are going to attempt a live broadcast from the trail, go to the broadcast from the trail page. Hopefully we will have a storng enough signal to get it on the air.

OK Trekkers start posting

Hi everyone, I hope the wood on our hand carts is dry and ready for us, nothing worse than a green wood handcart. At least that's what I hear. If you want to leave a post go to the Ma's and Pa's page and post a comment to your hearts content. All you youngens, tell your real Ma's and Pa's to check out the blog for news from the trail. Journal entry july 17 2011 - Time is short

In just a few days, we will be on the trail. I hope you feel the excitement in your final preparations. In trek history many postponed their journey. Some decided not to make the journey at all. Those that did were staunch in thier faith and laid the ground work for the Saints to dwell in the relative safety of the mountain west. We owe them a debt of gratitude. As we embark on this journey we have the rare opportunity to get a small glimpse into the past. Hopefully this will benefit our future as we pioneer our way through this life. May the Lord watch over each of you and your families as we trek forward.
